Kudos to Robert Schneider and the Apples In Stereo. Their ditty “Energy” was picked up by Pepsi for a giant new 2009 ad campaign.
Here’s the ad featuring the catchy song:
Robert lives in my hometown when not traveling and used to patronize my now-defunct vintage/junque store quite often. He is a laid back family man, and [...]

A decade and a half before the Wazzup campaign, Anheuser-Busch debuted this little commercial, about a baseball umpire being called up to the majors. Found it on YouTube this morning and it brought a tear to the corner of my eye all over again.
Hope all of our American readers are enjoying a peaceful holiday!
Gratefully,

It’s that time of year … to brainwash women into thinking a slave-mined blood rock from Africa makes them feel more loved …
The “He went to Jared’s!” commercials are the worst … if I was a woman, I would feel personally offended by them.
There aren’t that many good parodies of those terrible commercials, here is [...]

Sarah McLachlan’s sad animal angel ASPCA commercial is probably one of the saddest ever. Heart-breaking, tear-jerking, whatever you want to call it — its basically unwatchable to me because of the emotions it brings up. I find it sadder than the starving kids in Africa commercials … or the kids who need hairlips … and its a [...]

The following picture has been fascinating me for weeks. It is HUGE - about two stories high. It is advertising a second-rate, low-rent show that had its season finale more than two months ago. And it takes up some seriously pricey real estate - 1/2 block off the Magnificent Mile (Michigan Avenue) in downtown Chicago.
This [...]

Watching Project Runway just now, I saw a very hip, very cool, very fine commercial using Joan Jett’s “Do Ya Wanna Touch?” to highlight a new computer with touch-screen technology.
The rub? The computer being pitched was a Hewlett-Packard, though the computer had an almost Apple-type feel (though not quite as minimalist). Well played, HP advertising [...]

First, the Wendy’s hamburgur chain started using the Violent Femmes 1980s classic “Blister In The Sun” in their TV ads.
The lyrics to this song include, “When I’m walking, I strut my stuff, then I’m so strung out. I’m high as a kite, I just might, stop to check you out.” And of course … “Big [...]

Three decades of research (!) by University Of Florida researchers showed that ‘Sexist’ Men with traditional views on a woman’s role in the home earn $8,800 a year more on average than Men with a more ‘Modern’ view. 12,686 individuals were surveyed and tracked.
Fascinating… What do you think?
“What’s more, the enhanced earning power of [...]
